Celtic's Story

Celtic Consulting is a long-term care advisory firm, focused on providing one-on-one oversight, to facilities of all sizes. Our advisors are performance improvement experts, by correcting inefficient care processes and improvement of delivery of services, we are able to promote desirable outcomes.

Our philosophy is based on the foundation that compliance within an organization leads to both peace of mind and appropriate reimbursement. Proper education, establishment of correct procedures, continued examination and oversight can help organizations reach this level of reimbursement. Implementation of ethically correct and Federal/State Regulation-abiding programs is profoundly important to our firm, versus the “quick fix” approach. Instead, we opt to provide a long-term solution for the organization by solving the problem, correctly, the first time. By both identifying the root issue, developing a plan of correction and standing alongside the facility to correct it. Our staff is comprised of registered nurses, educators, legal nurse consultants and therapists who have held a variety of positions in long-term care facilities. As education is a valuable component of our approach, our employees receive frequent education pertaining to industry updates and changes valuable to our clients.

Celtic works with a variety of long-term care providers, including skilled nursing facilities, facility management companies, assisted living facilities and intermediate care facilities. Our firm has the flexibility, and availability, to offer service nationally.

Areas of expertise include Minimum Data Set (MDS) Management and Oversight, Quality Improvement Systems (QAPI, QM, 5-Star), Medicare Compliance Auditing, Billing and Denials Management, ICD-10 Diagnosis Coding Compliance Monitoring and Regulatory Survey Preparation. Additionally, we often provide workshops throughout the year for in demand topics. This can be an economical approach to educating your staff.

Celtic’s ultimate goal for our clients, at the conclusion of a project or long-term engagement, is to feel as though the organization has gained a partner, who has built them up to be independently successful.

Celtic Consulting, was founded in 2001 by President and CEO, Maureen McCarthy. After her 30 years of experience at all levels of the Long Term Care industry, she recognized the need for an educational resource, that would be available to skilled nursing facilities, facility management companies, assisted living facilities, and intermediate care facilities.

Celtic Consulting was established to ensure your current systems are sufficient, to meet CMS compliance standards. We believe that correct and efficient systems have the greatest impact on a facility’s reimbursment. By utilizing our efficient programs, Celtic’s advisors have been able to assist clients in accelerated improvement in a number of service areas. The foundation of Celtic’s programs revolves around quality education of staff at all levels. When proprer instruction is provided, guidance and training is ongoing, monitoring and correction of errors takes place, we have found remarkable success with our clients, from privately-owned skilled nursing facilities to national healthcare organizations.

Celtic Consulting is proud to be recognized as an American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordination (AANAC) Training Partner, with a Certified AANAC Master Teacher and OASIS Master Trainer on Celtic’s executive team. Maureen McCarthy

Maureen is the President of Celtic Consulting, LLC and the CEO and founder of Care Transitions, LLP; a post discharge care management service provider. Recognized as an industry leader in clinical reimbursement for Long-Term Care, Maureen has been a registered nurse for over 30 years with experience as an MDS Coordinator, Director of Nursing, Rehab Director and a Medicare biller. 

Maureen is the immediate past-president for the Association of Long Term Care Financial Managers, is the Medicare & MDS 3.0 Advisor for several state affiliates, and is an advisor to the J13 Medicare contractor National Government Services Provider Advisory Group. She is also an Editorial Advisor for HCPro, a national publisher for post-acute care providers. She sits on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Post-Acute Care Nurses (AAPACN) and has served as an Expert Advisory Panel member for American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordination (AANAC). McCarthy was recently presented the ACHCA 2018 Education Award, at the ACHCA Annual Convocation & Exposition in Orlando, FL.

McCarthy is certified in the resident assessment process, QAPI and Director of Nursing Services, by nationally recognized organizations and holds Master Teacher status in all three certifications.
